The Apollo Theater

New York, NY

Envoie is managing the renovation, restoration, and modernization of the iconic Apollo Theater - the first full-scale transformation of this historic Harlem landmark in over 90 years. Originally opened in 1914 and celebrated worldwide as the epicenter of Black performance and culture, the Apollo’s Historic Theater is being reimagined to enhance audience experience, expand community engagement, and future-proof the venue for decades to come. The project scope includes a fully revitalized and expanded lobby with a new café and bar, upgraded seating and sightlines, significant backstage enhancements for artists, restoration of landmark architectural elements, modernization of building systems, and a refreshed marquee that honors the theater’s global identity. To broaden access during construction, performances are continuing at The Apollo Stages at the Victoria Theater and the Apollo Soundstage. Strategically phased through fall 2026, this renovation preserves the Apollo’s centennial legacy while strengthening its role as a cultural anchor in Harlem and welcoming broader programming, fostering community connection, and celebrating the artistic contributions that have shaped American performing arts.
